Jersey Shore Half Marathon
The April 23rd race will be the first race in Hudson County since the 1988 Waterfront Marathon in New Jersey that started in Jersey City and passed through the towns North of the Hudson. The race serves as the United States Olympic Trials.
Steve Lipski, president of the Jersey City Road Runners, said he expects thousands of people to participate in the marathon and half marathon scheduled for that day. He said the runners will get a glimpse of the “culture and community and greatness of racing” in Jersey City.
This race will be held entirely in Jersey City and will allow participants to qualify for next year’s Boston Marathon.

“We’re looking to cover maybe three, maybe four areas of the city, then it’s going to be two circles,” Lipski said. “The first circuit will be 13.1 (miles), the second one will be very similar, not necessarily identical but almost identical to the first circuit.
“We hope that it will improve the current activities of some and others and give a sense of success and hope to people who do 26.2 miles for one.”
Mayor Steve Fulop, who completed the 2017 New York City Marathon, said the event will encourage and encourage residents to participate in races and community events leading up to the race. the. Lipski hopes to include Liberty State Park as part of the route runners will take for the race. He said that a professional trainer has been hired to develop the course.
“So far, we’ve been able to keep the elevation … between 100 and 200 feet, which is very smooth for the current environment and has a small number of changes,” Lipski said. “If it’s flat and straight, then the rules of gravity, if there’s no fight to fight, you just fly.”

Lipski said they are currently working to get sponsors for the event, which is expected to include cash prizes, t-shirts and medals. The race will be a New Jersey Track & Field event.
Legendary track/country coach John Nagel, who has coached athletes for 44 years at St. Dominic College in Jersey City, says whatever Jersey City proves to be right.
“You would think that when the race is over, a portion of the participants with their families will go to the various restaurants and bars. … Jersey City is on its way and has every opportunity to show that,” Nagel said.

“You can feel good for 22 miles, then there’s what’s called a wall,” Nagel said. “Don’t go out too fast, especially if you’re new. Do everything that makes sense that will give you the best chance to win and maximize your potential. “

Lincoln Park Side Ave. and Belmont Ave. Jersey City, N.J. 07304 Take the PATH train to Journal Square. Lincoln Park is only 1.5 miles from this stop. You can walk/run to the start or take a bus. There are three bus lines from Akosile Square that you can also take. Bus lines 80 and 1 have stops at the Lincoln Park entrance on Belmont Avenue and Westside Avenue. The 119 bus line has one stop from the entrance on JFK Blvd. and Belmont Ave.
Driving: Check Google Maps for driving directions. Look for Lincoln Park in Jersey City. It will take you to the main entrance and the start/finish area. There is no parking in Lincoln Park, but there is plenty of street parking.

Prize medals will be awarded to all three male and female runners. Age group prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups for the Half Marathon: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40 -44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and over. Age group awards for the 10K and 5k will be awarded to the top 3 in age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over.
