New Orleans Events September 2023 – Labor Day weekend is the last long weekend to take advantage of summer, and it’s the perfect time to head to New Orleans for a few days. Travel before fall (and back-to-school season for those traveling with the family) and mark the end of summer with some of the one-of-a-kind or Labor Day events in New Orleans.
This world-renowned LGBTQ festival has been a Labor Day weekend tradition in the French Quarter since 1972. Special events take place over six days, including the New Orleans Gay Walk, The Grand Marshals’ Southern Decadence Official Show, and Southern Decadence. Adv. Private Event Spaces In New Orleans
Pholile Zoo, Audubon Zoo’s children’s area with water slides, lazy river, water cannons and more, is the perfect way to spend Labor Day with the family. Pholile Zoo is usually closed on Mondays, but makes a special exception on Labor Day. Explore Uptown and the Audubon Zoo, then stay at the Cool Zoo for a fun summer day.
City Park offers plenty of family entertainment. You can play mini golf at City Putt or head to Carousel Gardens, Storyland or Botanical Gardens. Golfers can also check out Bayou Oaks Golf Course!
As NOLA’s summer heat cools, residents and visitors head outside to enjoy the breeze. Spend Labor Day at The Fly in Uptown near Audubon Park; it’s the perfect place to eat a burger and watch the sun set along the Mississippi River. If you want to explore a different part of the city, Crescent Park in the Bywater also offers great views of the city skyline. Many visitors enjoy a relaxing day at Bayou St. John, where you can have a picnic, rent a kayak or stop at the Bayou Beer Garden for a drink.

Join the second oldest gay club in New Orleans for a Mardi Gras ball. According to tradition, the title will be announced on the night of the ball.
The Mystic Krewe of Apollo de New Orleans is a Mardi Gras celebration for the LGBTQ community and allies. This year they are presenting their 20th Masquerade Ball, called Night of Magic, at the historic Carver Center in New Orleans. This anniversary ball will feature costumes from Hocus Pocus to Magic Markers (and maybe even visit the Enchanted Forest or see Magic Mike).

The 2023 Chewbacca Parade is a kaleidoscope of bacchanalia and sci-fi fandom set to the tune of New Orleans. Celebrate your craziness and passion for pop culture when you join Chewbacca for their 12th annual edition.
Kick off Gay Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Miwindo’s annual extravaganza, which traditionally celebrates black and African-American culture.
Krewe Bohème is a parade through the Marigny and French Quarter. Their aim is to present a visual and auditory feast of mystery, art and fun. The parade is led by the legendary green absinthe, recognized as a symbol of the bohemian spirit, followed by several Krewe-affiliated groups.
